First celebrated in 1999, this day is all about appreciating the incredible technology that helps us visualise and understand the world better. It’s a day to recognise how GIS allows us to see patterns and relationships in spatial data, helping industries solve complex problems and make the world a better place.

Lately, drones have come into the world of GIS not only as a disruptor of sorts but as a tool that breaks through challenges that GIS experts strive to find answers for. These crafts, once considered niche gadgets, have become synonymous with those working with geospatial data. How? They can fly low and navigate tricky terrains, gathering detailed information from places that are hard or dangerous for people to reach.
